Chepstow Harriers Club HandicapThe format for the handicap series is that there are four events, all on Thursday evenings spread over a seven week period in spring. The course is a hilly circuit of just under 5 miles in Chepstow Park Woods (see Google maps location of start). The slowest runner starts first, the next slowest second, and so on, until the fastest runner who starts last. The idea is that everyone finishes together at exactly the same time! This never happens so there is always a winner who gets a trophy on the night. There are also trophies for the three runners who do best in the series, with each runner’s best three results counting. If you have done the handicap before then you know how exciting the races can be, trying to chase the runner in front without being caught by the one behind! If you have never done a handicap then come and have a go! They are great fun - no denying that they are a bit tough, but great fun nonetheless and ANYONE can win!

Club Handicap - 8 May 2008 Results now posted for the fourth and final race in the handicap series. 39 runners took part plus several helpers. First home was Ivan (who had a much better run than he expected following his recovery from his recent injury), followed by Andy Silk and Gareth Creed. Well done to you and also well done to everyone else who ran! There were again many runners who did PBs or SBs on this handicap. The overall series was won by Gill Stott with 142 points, second was Karen Elvers with 124 points and third was Bill Savage with 123 points. Trophies for the series will be presented at the annual dinner. My thanks again to everyone who took part, and also everyone who helped at any of the races for their invaluable assistance! Vanessa
