Our regular training nights are Tuesday and Thursday, starting at 7pm at Chepstow Leisure Centre. - Meet in the Bar/Lounge at 6.50. We need to make any announcements and organise the groups ready for a prompt start at 7:00 CLUB TRAINING COMING UP
Note from Head Coach -
Now into Month 2 of our 3-month cycle. Lou is managing this one on behalf of the Q1 team
of Ivan, Geoff and herself. January’s emphasis was on base endurance with 10k race pace
recommended for Tuesday sessions. In February we start to crank up the pace to our 5k
race speed. Then in March we’ll be getting faster still in preparation for our target
race, the Forest of Dean Half. But don’t be alarmed. You’ll see that recovery periods
are getting longer to enable you to up your pace. The coaches will give out guide times
for each session, but of course you’re welcome to run faster or slower. You should find
a pace you can maintain for the whole session. It's not easy to gauge your 5k pace and
it helps to do the monthly Time Trial on the S Bridge (on Thurs 25th this month). Knowing
your latest 5k time also helps you choose which pace group to choose in the Tuesday
sessions. Choose your group carefully and be guided by your current fitness. It's tempting
to join a faster group and find you're struggling after the first rep.
Find your group from the chart,
but you may want to step down a group sometimes when you're not feeling too energetic,
maybe after a race. Then on the night, note the guide time for each rep and do your best
to stick to it. If you're struggling, step down a group (no-one will mind) or maybe miss
a rep and come back refreshed. It's a training session, not a race.

Prospective members - We welcome new members. Please contact our club coach, Dick Finch (Chepstow 627569 or dickfinch at talktalk.net ), also check out "About the Club" for a bit more information Thursday Club Runs – Our traditional long run is always available year-round. Maps of the evening’s route are posted up and available for taking with you. Every runner should familiarise themselves with the route. We don’t have leaders – just buddy up with a group of similar speed to yourself. Coaching Team - We have a growing number of club coaches,
with more development courses planned. These coaches were those
who volunteered their time in leading running groups and wanted
to extend this on a more formal basis. Anyone interested in
following their
footsteps please contact Dick Finch or any one
on the committee. Amongst their responsibilities are planning
the training sessions
and helping get things going on Tuesdays
and Thursdays. Please volunteer to help these volunteer coaches
whenever you can. We
currently have one level 3 coach, five
at level 2 and eight at level 1. |
